As a general rule, it’s standard practice to avoid overloaded signals and clipping. The idea behind Gossip, however, is to intentionally do just that. Performers are asked to improvise and play off each other’s gestures. Both Gossip and Poison Tree are from a set of pieces entitled Etudes for Sine Waves, the underlying concept being that all tone generation for the pieces would come from sine waves and utilize different synthesis and/or digital signal processing techniques to create unique sound worlds.
